Abstract | The inappropriate sinus tachycardia is a rare disease, characterized by heart rates 100 bpm or more during daytime and/or a mean heart rate of 90 bpm or more during holter monitoring. Mostly it is treated with a beta-blocker or verapamil and - if this therapy fails -transcatheter sinus node modulation is considered. For the last few years a new drug, a selective and specific If current blocker, ivabradine, has been available. We report the results of ivabradine therapy in three cases. In all of them ivabradine 5 mg bid successfully decreased the mean heart rate, measured by holter monitoring. Ivabradine therapy did not affect the exercise capacity in presented patients; however, in one patient, in whom combined therapy with bisoprolol was tested, the exercise test revealed a significant reduction in exercise capacity. Ivabradine seems to be an effective alternative for the inappropriate sinus tachycardia therapy. | |
