| Abstract | Background. The new antipsychotic drugs with their pharmacological profiles used in treatment of schizophrenia and paranoid disorders are presented. Treatment of schizophrenia and other paranoid disorders is becoming more specific and successful with development of new atypical antipsychotics. This efficacy is combined with fewer and more tolerable extrapyramidal side effects. Conclusions. The aim of this review article is to present new pharmacological profiles of atypical neuroleptics. Better understanding of their mechanism of action might promote their use in psychiatric practice. | |
