Abstract     Facial asymmetry is defined as imbalance between the two hemifaces. In everyday clinical practice, we usually evaluate facial asymmetry on frontal photographs of the patient's face or on posteroanterior cephalograms. However, both these methods show a three-dimensional subject in two dimensions, which is their pri mary limitation. Therefore, a three-dimensional system, for example a three-dimensional laser scanning system, can be used to assess facial asymmetry more accurately, both in everyday clinical practice and for research purposes.
