Abstract     Two laparoscopic operations for termination of rarly ectopic pregnancy (EP) were compared. Group A (n = 50) was treated in thr period from November 1988 to July 1990 by intratubal injection of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) under laparoscopic control. From November 1990 to March 1991, 30 pafients (group B) were treated by laparoscopic salpingotomy. In group A 44 (88 per cent ) of patients and in group B 28 (93 per cent ) of patients were treated successfully. Six patients (12 per cent ) in group A and 2 (7 per cent ) in group B required laparotomy or repeat laparoscopy due to persistent or increasing human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) values. Factors affecting success or failure, such as hCG values and size and location of ectopic pregnancy, were analyzed and compared in both groups. The main criterion for successful treatment was the uneventful return of the hCG to normal. Both treatments were highly effective in properly selected patients.
