Abstract | The study covered a random sample of 360 students from all parts of Slovenia who attended different departments of the University of Ljubljana. Among them, 34 per cent had received orthodontic care, whereas the remaining 66 per cent had no such treatment. Severe forms of dysgnathia were found in 74.5 per cent of examined students. Their treatment needs were assessed using a five-point scale developed by Hotz. The evaluation showed that 35.7 per cent of examined students were in need of corrective orthodontic treatment. Although the participants in this study were adults, most of those exhibiting a dysgnathia (22 per cent) were prepared to undergo orthodontic treatment. This finding may serve as a guideline in further planning and development of the orthodontic care system in Slovenia. | |
