Abstract     In the overview article entitled Biopsychosocial Model of Health we presented the history and basic characteristics of the biomedical model, the frameworks for establishing biopsychosocial concepts, connected with the present and past understanding of disease, the influence on health of gender, socio-economic status and the ageing process. We pointed out the role of personality in the development of disease and described the relation between life-style, risk factors and health, whereby we defined life-style as a primary pathogen of behaviour, and health protective behaviour as a resultant of genetic activity, operant conditioning, model learning, social factors, emotional state, the perception of sickness symptoms and cognitive factors. We have explained the health related convictions by means of a reasoning action model, and the influence of stress on behaviour by means of the conflict model. We underlined the role of the control locus and the sense of self-efficiency in health related behaviour. Special attention was dedicated to the modern perspectives which understand health as a process, explaining the relation between the constituting (biological, psychological and sociological) elements of the human bio-psychosocial wellbeing from the system theory viewpoint. Finally, we inserted the psychosomatic concepts into the model considered, described the role of psychology in the understanding of psychosomatic diseases as well as defining these conditions (distrubances, problems).
