Abstrakt     The aim of the study was the determination of changes in the dentofacial area appearing as results of the orthodontic treatment with cervical headgear together with the anticipated shifts of the first upper permanent molars. From our casuistics we chose 23 patients: 12 girls and 11 boys of the average age 10,3 + 1,8 years, in whom cervical headgear was indicated and applied in the average duration of 6,1 + 2,5 months. After the terminated orthodontic treatment we analysed their initial and final study models and registered the resulting changes in dental arches and the occlusion. In all treated cases the results were: the increased mesiodistal distance from the mesial surface of the left first upper molar to the mesial surface of the right first upper molar. Moreover, in the majority of cases (18 or 78,28 per cent) we registered also a spontaneous distal shift of upper premolars and partly also that of canines. First of all, the premolar distance in the upper dental arch became greater. Overjet and overbite were decreased. Beside morphologic changes we observed also competent lip seal. Beside the planned distalisation of the first upper molars the treatment with cervical headgear resulted also in other positive changes of the dentofacial area, evident in the enlarged mesiodistal extent of the upper dental arch, in the increased premolar distance, in the decreased overjet and overbite as well as in the competent lip seal.
