Abstrakt		In five patients with chronic inflammatory periodontal diseases and pockets 6-11 mm deep, lining the anterior teeth in the upper and lower jaws, the healing process was followed for three months after application of a modified Widman flap in combination with a barrier ePTFE membrane. The guided tissue regeneration procedure markedly reduced pocket depth and enhanced gain of the clinical attachment level. For four to five weeks after membrane application, significantly greater gingival exudation was seen in the patients, compared to a control group. Measurement of initial tooth mobility using small loads proved a very accurate method for describing the healing process; in the patients, tooth mobility reamined significantly increased for one month after membrane removal. Effective control of infection is essential for good connective tissue regeneration.
