Abstract     Acquired cystic disease of the kidney is common in patients on maintenance hemodialysis and its major complication is the renal cell carcinoma. The incidence of renal cell carcinoma in dialysis patients is higher than the incidence in general population. Symptoms associated with renal cell carcinoma are rare and appear in 14 percent of patients, other patients are asymptomatic. Ultrasound is screening method of choice for detecting the patients with acquired cystic disease of the kidney and possible malignant transformation of the kidneys.
