Abstrakt		Background. The injury of the cervical spine, involving the lesion of the nervous tissue of the spinal cord such as may be caused at diving into a shallow water, results in a very severe disability condition. In spite of the progress in the medical science the results of treatment and rehabilitation are not satisfactory. Every effort should be undertaken to give young swimmer, the most frequent victims of diving injuries, proper instruction on this subject. Conclusions. A broadly conceived national prevention program, developed under the catch phrase "Do Not Jump into the Unknown", has been under way in Slovenia for the last three years. It has been promoted in collaboration with the Health Protection Institute in Slovenia.
