Razprava: Rezultati raziskave kažejo visok odstotek slabe kakovosti spanja medicinskih sester, kar sovpada z ugotovitvami drugih avtorjev. Background: Sleep quality of nurses is an important indicator of health in the workplace, and may also affect the quality of nursing. More than half of nurses working in shifts suffer from poor sleep quality. The purpose of the study was to investigate the sleep quality in nurses and the predictors which correlate with sleeping. Methods: The sample of respondents included 278 randomly selected nurses from the University Medical Centre Ljubljana. Data were obtained with a questionnaire on sleeping habits and predictors influencing sleep quality. Data analysis was conducted using chi-square test and the binary logistic regression. Statistical significance was set at P<0.05. Results: A total of 68.7 % of nurse respondents reported poor sleep quality. Significant negative correlation was obtained between sleep quality and working in three shifts (p=0.002), and a significant positive correlation between sleep quality and 60 to 90 minutes of physical activity (p=0.044). Discussion: Study results show a high percentage of nurses with poor sleep quality, which coincides with the previous findings. We recommend inclusion of the problem in nursing education and promotion of healthy sleep among employees. Nurse managers must take responsibility for healthy work schedules. Future studies should focus on the nurse%s awareness of the importance of sleep quality for their health and quality of nursing. | |
