Abstract     The possibility of electrical stimulation of the abdominal muscles during ventilation of normal subject was tested. The stimulation was triggered by expiratory airflow at the mouth, what resulted in increased tidal volume. This supports the idea, that similar electrical stimulation can be used in patients on mechanical ventilation. The Elite optical system was preliminary tested for measurement of lung volume.
