Abstract		The development of natural sciences in the 19th century required the health care services to begin acting preventively, and maintaining human health, including health of school population, endangered by many factors. School polyclinics were established and in Slovenia they were already quite numerous at the beginning of the 2nd world war. In the postwar period their number increased further. It could be heardly said that nowadays pupils' health is less endangered than it was in the past. Only the pathology and the living environment changed, the environment being quite adverse for the todays school youth. Community should, therefore, pay special attention to the health of the school population. At the same time, this is also a strategy for achieving health on national scale.
