Abstract     In systematic health survey of 497 Maribor pre-school children their height and weight was determined. No significant differences in height or weight were found between children, staying in kindergarten (aged 1-5) and those in home-care. On the other hand a significant difference was found between children of mothers with low (incomplete or complete elementary) and those with high (faculty) education. The children of mothers with high education were significantly taller. The author, therefore, presumes that parents with higher education live in better social conditions. Good kindergartens could, thus, considerably decrease the differences in children growth and mental development.
