Abstract     The breathing detector is a new devide for objective assessment of the mode of breathing and patency of the nasal passages. In clinical trials conducted for four years, it has proved a reliable and handy instrument. It registers the temperature difference between expired and ambient air. An important advantage over classical devices is its ability to register the flow of expired air repeatedly (six times per minute) with equal accuracy. In this way it provides practically continous information on the mode of breathing over a set period of time. The breathing detector may prove a valuable aid in assessing the relationship between the mode of breathing and malocclusion.
