Abstract		The author presents a short historical account of the dispensaries for children in slovenia. He describes the main activities of the dispensary method and gives strong support for the continuation of this method of treating children and argues against the transfer of primary paediatric health care to the family physician. Private practice is not however a barrier to this aim. The author presents the current problems in paediatrics in Slovenia and proposes a resolution of these problems. He especially warns of the falling birthrate in Slovenia, while the infant mortality rate remains steady.
