Abstract		Advanced therapy medicinal products are gene- and/or cell-based biological medicines. They of fer new ground-breaking opportunities for the treatment of disease and injuries. In the article, we present the specificities of drug development and authorisation procedures of advanced therapy medicinal products and describe the four main subgroups: gene therapy medicines, somatic-cell therapy medicines, tissue-engineered products, and combined advanced therapy medicinal pro ducts. We also present all advanced therapy medicinal products that have been granted a marketing authorisation agreement in the European Union.
