Abstract     An important reseach effort is underway to develop strategies that would enhance the hemodynamic efficacy of CPR. Several new methods have emerged and current pharmacological support is being reassessed. However, proof that these new modalities favor the ultimate outcome of cardiac arrest is needed to define more precisely the role of new resuscitation modalities and to justify costly investment on equipment, personnel, training. Research that focuses on outcome including resuscitation, survival, and recovery of cerebral function is therefore awaited.
