Abstract | Pre-incisional infiltration with bupivacaine and epinephrine was used in order to reduce blood loss, lower intraoperative analgesic requirements and provide adequate immediate postoperative analgesia. 24 patients were studied, of whom 9 infants and 15 small children. Intravenous anaesthesia and continuous monitoring were used in all patients. Pain assessment was started on admission to PARR and continued until the next morning using a multifactorial 10-point pain scale. Infants received larger average doses of bupivacaine (mg/kg) and required the first analgesic later than small children. Most of them needed no addional analgesia during the second half of the operation. The assessed average pain scores were fairly low. | |
