Abstrakt | The regulations governing theoretical and practical aspects of work of Slovene courts, as well as of the tasks of expert medical witnesses giving medical evidence to these courts, are mostly identical to those in other European countries. Expert knowledge, high ethical standards and moral integrity of medical experts guarantee that final decision reached by the court will be based on an impartial, truthful expert testimony. The tasks and duties of the medical expert are defined in Chapter 6 of the Criminal Law Code. Deviations from the established standards which might occasionally be encountred in the practice are not contrary to the positive legislation. The efficacy of law courts depends, to a large extent, on the efficacy of medical experts. In order to mantain the acquired level of proficienci and to further their professional knowledge, medical experts are encouraged to attend continouing training courses in forensic medicine. | |
