Abstrakt		The influence of psychoactive substances on human function can be estimated only by well-oriented medical examination. Toxicological examination can establish the presence and concentration of psychoactive substances in body fluids. We discouss the distribution of alcohol, its metabolism and effects on body functions, especially the function of the central nervous system. One must consider these features in evaluating the findings of medical examination and alcoholmetry. We stress, that the disturbance of nervous and psychic acitivity correlates with the blood levels of alcohol only in casual drinkers. In habitual drinkers, which often develop tolerance for alcohol, the clinical signs of alcohol abuse are sometimes hard to notice. We emphasizes, that the recognition of psychoactive substance, which caused intoxication is not possible slely on clinical basis. There is always an indication for toxicological analysis.
