Abstract     Hospital treatment is monitored by the calculation of relative indicators for hospital beds, admitted patients, in-patient days, average duration of treatment and occupancy of hospital beds. The calculation of individual indicators varies between R of Slovenia and other countries monitored by OECD. The approaching to Europe is urging us to inform the calculations on account of an easier comparability. There is no difference between the number of admitted patients monitored by OECD and the discharged ones monitored by our country. A more reasonable basis represent the discharged patients as they have a known cause and duration of treatment. At individual indicators, the influences on their value and the estimation of their applicability in health statistics are enumerated. In the contribution, the indicators concerning hospital treatment for several European countries, including R of Slovenia and USA in the years 1988 to 1991 are presented. Later data, except for R of Slovenia, are not at our disposal. Individual indicators for our country are exposed also according to the disciplines. Transfers of patients to other department or to another hospital according to the coordinated instructions do not occur in all hospitals. In the conclusions and propositions, activities for the improving of a qualitative dealing with hospital treatment in R of Slovenia are quoted.
