Abstract     Pharmaceutical care is basically defined as responsible implementation of drug therapy with the purpose of achieving maximum therapeutic benefit resulting in a better quality of life for the patient. It is that part of the pharmacist's mission which provides a comprehensive care for the patient and which by far surpasses the sole supply of drugs. Pharmaceutical care is a new philosophy in the pharmaceutical practice is a new philosophy in the pharmaceutical practice which has revolutionized the mission of the profession and which has oriented it towards the patient. It has emerged from specific needs and circumstances prevailing in different countries, therefore it varies in its very definition as well as in its content. It differs from the traditional practices of drug therapy in that it follows the patient after the dispense of the medication, endeavours to improve the outcome of therapy and evaluates and records it is studies; it furthermore maintains a relationship with other health care professionals and directs its activities towards the public in general with the aim to improve the overall quality of life. Good results achieved within the scope of the pharmaceutical care lower the expenses of those involved in paying for health care services. In Slovenia, some elements of the above described comprehensive pharmaceutical care have already become a part of the pharmacy's scope of activities. In our report we present some further areas where introduction of the pharmaceutical care practices might find enough support for further development. Pharmaceutical care should become an organized and permenent working method in the practice of pharmacy.
