Abstract		The author presents the etiology of acute respiratory distress and possible anatomic sites of partial or complete upper airway obstruction. Guidelines for the diagnosis and the sequence of the treatment procedures for the reestablishment of airway are given. In Conclusion, some practical advices about necessary conditions for successful treatment of patients with respiratory distress are suggested.
Summary		Avtor opisuje vzroke in anatomsko lokalizacijo nastanka akutne dihalne stiske zaradi delne ali popolne zapore zgornjih dihalnih poti. Opisuje diagnostiko in načine ter zaporedje ukrepov pri nudenju pomoči bolnikom z akutno dihalno stisko. V zaključku da nekaj praktičnih napotkov. Navaja pogoje, ki morajo biti izpoljeni da bolnikom z akutno dihalno stisko lahko uspešno pomagamo.
