Abstract     Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAID's) are heterogenious group of drugs of different chemical classes. They are nonspecific in their actions on different tissues. They interact with several non-enzymic and enzymic proteins. All of the pharmacological effects of NSAID's are related to the primary action of the drug-inhibition of arachidonate cyclo-oxygenase. They exhibit three types of inhibition: reversible competitive, irreversible and reversible non-competitive. NSAID's have three major pharmacological effects: anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effect. Unwanted effects of NSAID's are common and include gastrointestinal disturbances, renal effects, skin reactions and bone marrow depression.
