Abstract     Aspergillosis (Asp) developed in 6 (2.5%) patients (pts), 5 male and 1 female, among 241 renal transplant recipients in the period 1970-1994. Localised forms of Asp, such as lung aspergilloma and cutaneous Asp, were found in 2 still alive pts. Systemic angionvasive Asp with central nervous system involvement was discovered in 4 pts, Asp having been detected prior to death in 2 of them. In 3 pts, there were different simultaneous infections. The dose and duration of immunosuppressive treatment, overlapping pathologic conditions in renal transplant recipients, such as acute cellular rejection f the graft and/or important serious metachronous and synchronous multiple viral and/or bacterial infections, are some of predisposing factors for the development of Asp. neutropenia, high levels of serum creatinine, etc. may also aggravate, complicate, and even mislead diagnostic procedures, interpretations of their results, and even therapy.
