Abstract		The AIDS epidemia has led to emergence of several disease entities which in the pre-HIV era were rare or seemingly innocuous. Infection with HIV is characterised by progressive deterioration of host immunity. As the immune system wanes, infected individuals are placed at increased risk for the acquisition of a plethora of opportunistic pathogens. Prevention and management of opportunistic infections in persons infected with HIV are reviewed and summarised.
Summary		S pojavom sindroma pridobljene imunske pomanjkljivosti (aidsa) so se pojavile številne okužbe, ki so bile pred epidemijo s HIV redke ali neprepoznane. Okužba s HIV povzroča napredujočo slabitev gostiteljevega imunskega sistema. Okužene osebe so tako izpostavljene večjemu tveganju za okužbo z množico oportunističnih povzročiteljev. V prispevku so predstavljeni načini za preprečevanje in zdravljenje oportunističnih okužb pri osebah, okuženih s HIV.
