Abstrakt     The estimation of bodily injuries in everyday legal practice requires the classification of bodily ijuries into distinct groups in accordance with specified criteria. In general terms, an expert opinion is a subjective evaluation of both circumstances that have been objectively established during a criminal investigation, and of findings made by the expert during laboratory tests or examination of the injured person or his medical records. The basic guidelines for estimation are stipulated in the Penal Code. The legislation concerns legal criteria, and not medical criteria, as demonstrated by a comparison between the legislation in different countries, which varies a great deal. The paper attempts to briefly summarise and discuss the problems concerning the estimation of bodily injuries as stipulated by the Penal Code of the Republic of Slovenia.
