Abstract | Herpes simplex (HS) is one of the comonest infections of men throughout the world. Geniral HS is a sexually transmitted diseas, which after the primary infectioncan progress into the life-long recurrent attacks. The discomfort and pain of recurrent lesions and the psychological consequences of being infected with herpes simplex virus (HSV) are reflected in high levels of emotional and psychological morbidity among sufferers. The author gives a short description of etiopathogenesis of genital HS, the clinical manifestation and medical approach to the treatment. Significance of asymptomatic form of the diseas for transmission of HSV to the healthy sexual partner is stressed.
