Abstrakt		The author's intention in the research presented in this paper was to determine the extent of the link between a child's attachment to the mother and certain fundamental indicators of a child's readiness to enter school, such as attitude towards peers, work or learning and manner of play. Research by other authors is presented which discovered a significant link between a child's development of a sense of security in relations with the mother and the child's social and cognitive development. This is followed by a presentation of research conducted with the mothers of 100 children attending a school entry programme or the first year at primary school. The quality of the child's attachment to the mother was determined using two estimation scales which covered the child's behaviour towards the mother in stressful situations. The results of the research confirmed the author's expectations, as the use of other methodologies on research implemented before revealed a number of important links between the variables discussed.
