Abstrakt		Background. The origin and the early and late sequels of the so called "whiplash" injuries of the neck is still very controversial discussed. So far neither the essential pathology nor an appropriate therapy of this lesion is known. Based on the own experience of 60 observed cases the authors comment and discuss the different and often contradictory statements found in the pertinent literature. Conclusions. The authors claim, that there are no general rules for the diagnosis and therapy of this lesion. Moreover, every single case should be analyzed very carefully to prevent misdiagnoses.
Izvleček		Izhodišča. Avtorji opredeljujejo zgodovinsko in terminološko nihajne poškodbe vratu po vzrokih, zgodnjih in poznih posledicah in navajajo postopke zdravljenja. Podatke iz literature osvetljujejo s prikazom 60 pregledanih bolnikov. Zaključki. Menijo, da ni splošnega pravila za diagnosticiranje in zdravljenje te poškodbe, zato mora biti vsak posamezni primer natančno razčlenjen, da preprečimo postavitev napačne diagnoze.
