Abstrakt     The electroretinogram (ERG) asesses the function of the retina separately from that of the optic nerve and the central visual pathway. It allows differentiation between ascending, retinal functional deficits, that is heredodegenerations, and descending, retrograde degenerations of the optic nerve. The ERG is essential in establishing a number of diagnoses and can identify retinal involvement in neurologic and pediatric syndroms. Other applications for electroretinography include poor vision in infants, nystagmus, and unexplained visual field defects.
