Abstract     The multifocal combined stimulation and analysis technique, developed by Sutter, permits the stimulation of multiple small areas of the visual field almost simultaneously and in a pseudo-random manner. Thus it is possible to record responses to localised stimulation within a relatively short period. This chapter briefly describes the technique and reviews how the ERG and, particularly, the VEP obtained by the use ofthis technique relate to the ERG and VEP recorded in the traditional (standard) way. It indicates further work that is necessary before results obtained with this technique may be related to the extant body of knowledge on the traditional responses.
