Abstrakt     Stroke location, volume and motor evoked potentials (MEP) were evaluated in 26 MCA stroke patients as predictive factors for poststroke recovery. The location and the volume of the stroke was determined using CT. MEP were evoked by magnetic transcortical stimulation. Patients with cortical stroke had mild initial deficit with preserved MEP and good recovery what suggests preserved corticospinal tract. Patients with subcortical lesion showed two types of changes: those with lesion of anterior and medial part of internal capsule had preserved MEP and good recovery while those with lesion in posterior part of internal capsule had abnormal or absent MEP and poor recovery what was presumed to be due to the lesion of corticospinal tract emerging from primary motor cortex. Volme of the lesion was much less important for the recovery than the exact location of the lesion. Preserved MEP in the early poststroke phase suggested goodpotential for recovery, what was presumably due to preserved function of corticospinal tract.
