Abstrakt		To obtain standardisation and improve the quality of the EMG examination knowledge about inter-laboratory differences is needed. ESTEEM (European Standardised Telematic Tool to Evaluate EMG Knowledge-based Systems and Methods), has developed a standardised data structure for EMG and a case collection tool. Results from 1083 EMG examinations from seven different European laboratories were collected via the internet in a patient database. The results have shown differences among laboratories with respect to 1) epidemiology, 2) planning strategies, 3) examination techniques, 4) pathophysiological interpretations and 5) diagnostic criteria. Medical audit influenced the EMG practice of the clinical neurophysiologist involved. The knowledge from the ESTEEM EMG database provides a basis of standardisation of the issues mentioned above.
