Abstrakt | Magnetoencephalography (EMG) enables detection of extremely weak magnetic fields in the human brain. It belongs to the family of tools that allow non-invasive investigation of functional brain topography. MEG by virtue of its good temporal and spatial resolution has various applications: In basic research it is employed in evoked potential/evoked field research of all kinds evoked by stimuli of the different sensory modalities or event-related potentials/fields in various applications including the motor system, where the magnetic equivalents of contingent negative variation (CNV) and Bereitschaftspotential (BP) can be recorded. Important applications for MEG are, however, also found in Clinical Neurology. Magnetoencephalographic evidence has been found for cerebral plasticity, and presurgical epilepsy diagnosis benefits from the inclusion of the MEG into the arsenal of diagnostics. | |
