Abstrakt     Tonic and phasic cortical activation was studied in 44 unmedicated schizophrenics and 21 non-patient schizotypal subjects with cortical activation functions (CAF). The CAFs were developed with 254 healthy volunteers. The CAFs show the degree of cortical activation during rest and during a simple choice reaction task. It was found that schizophrenic patients and to a similar degree schizotypal subjects show increased tonic cortical activation in the posterior cortex during the reaction time task when compared with healthy controls. This cortical activation is not due to state-anxiety. Subgrouping of patients reveales that those patients with paranoid-halluzinatoric symptomatology show highest correlation with increased activation.
