Abstrakt | We studied, in a 7 years follow-up, 6 children, age ranged from 4 to 10 years, affected by Benign Childhood Epilepsy with Occipital Paroxysms (BCEOP). In all these patients the onset was sudden, stormy and accompanied by prolonged loss of consciousness, lasting from 6 to 14 hours. The EEG recorded during post-ictal state showed continuosly wide spread slow activity (theta-delta) in 2 patients and spike-waves discharges in 4 patients. The interictal EEG was characterized by continuous or sub-continuous occipital spikes-waves discharge, which disappeared after eyes closure. Only 2 patients were treated with antiepileptic drugs and were seizure free in the 7 years follow-up. The stormy onset of the syndrome described in our 6 patients enhances the range of extreme variability in the presentation of this benign form of childhood epilepsy, BCEOP. | |
