Abstrakt | One of the challenges for modern medicine is the translation of basic advances in immunobiology into diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that will be useful in the practice of clinical medicine. over the past decades numerous advances have been made in the identification and diagnosis of specific immunodeficiency disorders. Four major components of the immune system assist the individual in defending against microorganisms. These systems consist of anibody-mediated (B-cell) immunity, cell-mediated (T-cell) immunity, phagocytosis, and complement. Screening tests are available for each component of the immune system. These tests enable the physician to diagnose more than 75% of all immunodeficiency disorders. Several important limitations regarding the application of immune laboratory tests, particularly in a clinical context, must, however, be observed.
Izvleček | Eden od izziv sodobne medicine je prenos znanj in napredka bazične imunobiologije v diagnostične in terapevtske postopke klinične medicine. To so protitelesna imunost (limfociti B), celična imunost (limfociti T), fagocitoza in sistem komplementa.
