Abstract     Background. Authors analyze the results of tension operations of inguinal hernia and selection of optimal operative method. Method and results. 180 adult inguinal hernia patients operated on in our department in 1992 were given anonymous questionnaires. 99 patients answered our questions. They were operated by Bassini and Kirschner tension metod. Postoperative pains were present for two weeks after the operation. Patients started to work four weeks after operation. Hernia has recurred in 11 patient (11%). Concusions. The assembled dta show that pain persists longer after tension inguinal hernia operative methods. Patients started to work and the recurrence rate of hernia was 10% greater than in tension free methods (open, laparoscopic) performed in the past years.
