Abstract     The paper summarises the findings of European work groups for the cochlear implants in children in EU member states. The findings are based on a questionnaire which was responded to by centers for cochlear implants (50), national and regional associatios of perents with deaf children (8) and national associations of the deaf (10). The most important findings were that the number of children with implants has increased in the last five years, the minimum age for the operation is two years of chronological age, the motivation of the parents and children is important for spoken communication, and the greatest responsibility after the operation is the method of education. Various experts emphasise that the field of cochlear implants is etically demanding and sensitive.
