Abstrakt | Background. Herpesviruses are very frequent pathogens in humans. Infections usually occur very early during lifetime. Primary infections which are symptomatic or asymptomatic are followed by latency, reactivations happen oftenly. COnclusions. Some of the herpesviruses are involved in the development of neoplasms, Epstein-Barr viruses being the most important among them. This virus is related to Burkitt's lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and to the lymphoproliferative disorders of the immunocompromised persons. Epstein-Barr virus is also connected to one type of Hodgkin's disease and to some T-cell lymphoma. The tumor cells used to be genetically altered. The alterations might be provoked by the virus, while the tumor develops only by the contribution of numerous other factors.
Izvleček | Herpesvirusi so zelo pogosti povzročitelji okužb pri človeku. Nekatere herpesviruse so vrsto let povezovali z neoplazmami. Neoplastične celice so genetično spremenjene.
