Abstrakt     In the state of shock, blood circulation through the tissues is decreased strongly. This decrease, and above all the resulting deficient blood oxygenation affects the entire organism. If it persists long enough to surpass the critical limit, it causes generalized impairment of cell function. Circulation through tissue depends on systemic arterial blood pressure, which is a product of cardiac output and peripheral resistance. A decrease in one of these, without a compensatory increase in the other, results in tissue hypotension and hypoperfusion. The causes of shock can be roughly divided into hypovolemia, myocardial insufficiency, obstructed blood flow and regulatory disorder of systemic resistance. In numerous patients in advanced states of shock the basic cause is no longer evident because the mechanisms of development start interlacing and affecting the organism simultaneously.
