Abstrakt		Mushroom poisoning represents a serious and frequent problem in Croatia. On the basis of the clinical picture, and particularly of the time elapsing from consumption until the occurrence of symptoms, mushroom poisonings are classified according to syndromes. Despite its dramatic clinical picture, poisoning with short latency has a favourable prognosis. Poisoning with long latency is connected with a high mortality rate, particularly in childhood. With regard to the mortality rate and our present inability to make a precise diagnosis, we believe that every mushroom poisoning should be treated as Amanita phalloides poisoning until the contrary has been proven. It is evident that, if applied in due time, the therapeutic protocol developed at our Department decreases the mortality rate.
