Abstract		Respiratory insufficiency in pneumonia occurs when relatively great part of the pulmonary parenchyma is infected. Patient with pneumonia who has severe respiratory insufficency and/or is hemodinamically instable, needs treatment in the intensive care unit. Mortality of patients with severe pneumonia (defined in table1) reaches up to 50%. Despite advances in diagnosis and treatment, severe pneumonia remains a great clinical problem.
