Abstract     In the first part of the article, the theoretical starting points for the development of the arch wire technology in fixed orthodontics are discussed. Superelastic NiTi arch wires have excellent mechanical properties, offering many advantages for the patient and the orthodontist. The second part describes the orthodontic management of an 11-year-old girl with an Angle class II/1 malocclusion and crowding in the anterior segment of the upper jaw. The patient was provided with a fixed straight-wire appliance, and good results were achieved in a relatively short period of time.
