Abstract		Basic principles of early medical rehabilitation (EMR), which are of mayor importance for the optimal functional result after operative treatment of the knee, are discussed in this article. Methods of physical medicine, used in EMR, the rule of postoperative knee brace and proper timing in planning and prescribing of the EMR are pre- sented. The rule of the surgeon, who deals with the most important data for successful and safe EMR in planning of the rehabilitation programme, is specially pointed out.
