Abstract     Common duckweed (Lemna minor L.) was grown in the laboratory under artifical ultraviolet-B (W-B) radiation in media with different concentrations of nutrients. Three different levels of UV-B radiation (15 kJm-2,19 kJm-2 and 26 kJm-2 per day) were applied. At the end of the experiment, growth rate, chlorophyll content and photochemical efficiency of photosystem II were determined in UV-B treated and in control plants. The data indicate that the highest level of UV-B radiation significantly influences the growth rate of treated plants. Total chlorophyll content in irradiated plants was also lower, but photochemical efficiency of PS II was not affected. Under medium level of UV-B radiation the effect on growth was observed only when the experimental plants were not nutrient limited.
