Abstract		The paper discusses the demographic data disclosing an aging population in the developed world as well as in Slovenia. Associated with this are multiple sociologic and health problems occurring in the elderly and in society in general. The most significant factors affecting the health of the elderly are debated: physical, mental and social health, financial and economic position, historical conditions and environmental factors. The second part deals with the significance, integrity and individual approach to the management of the elderly, with special stress on the dispensary method of work within the Gerontologic Dispensary.
