Abstract     A suicide and suicidal attempt is to often way Slovenian people choose to solve their problems they can not live with. The incidence of suicide in Slovenia is very high, one of the highest in Europe and in the world. Reasons for such high incidence can be explained by specific social - historic characteristic and national character of Slovenian people. Suicide prevention is important, primarily as prevention of risk factors, which lead to suicide and secondary with working and helping people, who are endangered by risk factors for suicide. Interventions of Emergency Medical Service in management of suicidal patient and final psychiatric evaluation and treatment in hospital represents a tertiary prevention of suicide. The role of EMS team is provide care for physical well being of the suicidal patient. Access to the suicidal patient does not differ from other interventions regarding the safety of EMS team and the patient. The most important in assessing the suicidal patient is appropriate communication between the patient, physician and other members of EMS team. We must not moralise, but listen to the patient. We must provide the reassurance that the patient will overcome this crisis and that all available help will be provided to help him do so. This is the only way we can gain his trust and co-operation.
